2. END OF TERM CELEBRATION!!  Friday, December 10th at Dewey’s, 2:00pm until whenever!  The WSUA will buy the food, you buy your drinks.  If you’re graduating this semester beer is on us!  Come and hang out, meet fellow women’s studiers, de-stress, etc!

Gendered and racialized violence against Indigenous women in Canada is a historical and ongoing problem of epidemic proportions. Over the last 30 years, upwards of 500 Aboriginal women have been murdered or reported missing in Canada.  Despite decades of awareness and advocacy, federal and provincial governments fail to address the epidemic.

Join us for a film screening, Finding Dawn, a documentary that explores the troubling reality for Aboriginal women in Canada followed by a discussion led by Danielle Cardinal, who founded the March for Missing and Murdered Women in Edmonton, April Eve, founder of Edmonton Stolen Sisters Awareness, Gloria Neapetung, street survivor and activist, and Maya Rolbin-Ghanie, a Montreal-based activist who founded Missing Justice (www.missingjustice.ca).

1. WEEKLY GET TOGETHERS.  We’re going to start getting together every week just to chat and hang out – not really any WSUA business.  For now, and starting this Wed, Sept 29 we’ll try the time of Wednesdays at 2pm in Dewey’s.  It’s in the North Powerplant, just north of Dentistry/Pharmacy.  Come and visit!

2. MOVIE NIGHT.  This Thursday, Sept 30 at 5pm in the Heritage Lounge in Athabasca Hall.  There will be Cookies by George!  Please bring a small donation ($1 – $5) for the WSUA.  Bring your friends  - they don’t have to be in W St!

3. BAKE SALE.  This probably won’t be the first week of Oct as discussed as I need to get ahold of Capital Health (we have to have approval).  However, I would love to hear from you if you can bake!  Think cookies, cupcakes, squares. No nuts!  And I would love to hear from you if you can bake vegan or gluten-free!  Depending on how many bakers I think we’ll each need to make two items.  If you’re interested email me (rachaelbanderson[at]gmail[dot]com) and let me know what your planning on making.  Also, the SU says that we have to have ingredient lists available for those who want to see them so make sure you hang on to the recipe!  AND, If you want to get involved but can’t bake, you can sit and the table selling.  In this case I’d also like to here from you!  I’ll keep you posted on dates.
