No more Stolen Sisters: systemic violence against Indigenous women in Canada
Gendered and racialized violence against Indigenous women in Canada is a historical and ongoing problem of epidemic proportions. Over the last 30 years, upwards of 500 Aboriginal women have been murdered or reported missing in Canada. Despite decades of awareness and advocacy, federal and provincial governments fail to address the epidemic.
Join us for a film screening, Finding Dawn, a documentary that explores the troubling reality for Aboriginal women in Canada followed by a discussion led by Danielle Cardinal, who founded the March for Missing and Murdered Women in Edmonton, April Eve, founder of Edmonton Stolen Sisters Awareness, Gloria Neapetung, street survivor and activist, and Maya Rolbin-Ghanie, a Montreal-based activist who founded Missing Justice (www.missingjustice.ca).
